What are the Steps of Joining a Gang?

There are several ways in which a person can join a gang. The process isn’t always the same, and it’s not always as easy as you would think.

Fraternity/Sorority

Membership is based on reputation – potential members come to the gang and request membership.

Obligation

Membership is based on persuasion – potential members feel a duty to join the gang for the sake of the community.

Coercion

Membership is based on intimidation – potential members are physically or psychologically pressured to join the gang.
